When to Go: Choosing your Dates

The main thing to consider when visiting St. Lucia is the weather. While not as unpredictable as other Caribbean islands, there are traditionally dry and wet seasons. The wet season is from June through November, and the dry season is December through June (although those visiting in the winter should expect some light rain showers throughout the day that pass quickly). Our favorite time to go is in that sweet spot of April-May after the holiday crowds of winter but before the wet season begins in June.

Transportation

Most international travelers visiting St. Lucia will fly into the Hewenorra International Airport (UVF). Once on the island taxi service is available or we suggest setting up private transportation. Located on the very southernmost side of the island, the UVF airport is about an hour to Soufriere where many of our favorite resorts are located, so expect a scenic drive to your final destination.

Navigating around the island can be done by taxi, private transportation arranged through your resort, or, St. Lucia has a public transportation system known as the St. Lucia Minibus System if you're looking to explore the island like a local.

Where to Stay

Luxury resorts dot the shores and are hidden amongst the lush landscaping in St. Lucia. Our very favorite accommodations in St. Lucia are the beachfront cottages at Sugar Beach Viceroy where you'll find incredible 24-hour butler service, free children's programs like sailing classes, and delicious dining options (an all-inclusive package is available). Perfect for couples or families, the resort's spacious nature allows you to feel private and serene from wherever you are on the property.

Things to Do in St. Lucia

Whether you like to spend your days in the water or out, St. Lucia is the best of both worlds.

  • Visit the Piton Nature Trail: There are two trails here, one more strenuous than the other with a pre-planned guide needed, but if you're looking for an incredible hike with striking landscape views, look no further. Or, you can spend your time ziplining through the rainforest!

  • Hit the Beach: Our favorite beach is Jalousie Beach because the white sandy beach comes with stunning views of the Pitons in the background. Snorkelers and Scuba divers love this location due to the 1,800-foot drop-off at the base of the Pitons creating spectacular diving. Sugar Beach resort sits ideally on this beach, but if you're not staying here there is a part of it reserved for the public.

  • Sail the Caribbean Sea: Honestly, our favorite way to view St. Lucia may be from the water itself! Private and group sails are available from all major resorts and most include light refreshments and snorkel gear!

  • A Volcanic Experience: If you're feeling like an adventure, head to the only drive-through volcano in the world! You can even take a mud bath, visit hot springs, and waterfall.

  • Learn about Chocolate Making: Visit a cocoa estate and tour the plantation learning about how chocolate is made, and finish off the tour by creating your very own chocolate bar! Feeling extra sweet? Chocolate spa treatments are available at a few locations throughout St. Lucia, our favorite being at the St. Lucia Rainforest Hotel Spa at Sugar Beach Viceroy.
